1. Greenhills Beach (Off-Leash Area)

Location:
Greenhills Beach, Kurnell NSW 2231

The Vibe:
Greenhills is Sydney’s premier ocean-facing off-leash beach, offering a wide-open stretch of sand ideal for energetic dogs. It’s a popular and social spot, especially on weekends. Note that the beach is not patrolled and swimming is not recommended due to strong currents.

Dog Rules:

  • Daylight savings: Off-leash from 4pm to 10am
  • Non-daylight savings: Off-leash from 3pm to 10am
  • Dogs must be on-leash when entering and leaving the area
  • Maintain effective control at all times
  • Serious penalties apply for dogs that rush, menace, or attack people or other animals.
  • Pet policies can change, so we always recommend checking the complete and most up-to-date rules before you heading to this beach.

Parking:
The most convenient spot is the large, dedicated Greenhills Beach Car Park, located right near the access point at the Wanda Beach end.

Facilities:

  • Public toilets at Don Lucas Reserve
  • Water station near Don Lucas Reserve public toilet

Nearby Dog-Friendly Cafes:

  • Bianchini's Cafe – Located right on Elouera Beach and just a 15-minute walk from the off-leash area, this popular spot has a great outdoor seating area perfect for a post-run coffee.
  • Nulla Nulla Cafe – A Cronulla institution and a popular dog-friendly cafe just a short drive from the beach, with a large, welcoming outdoor area for you and your pup.

Pup Safari Tip:

The main off-leash area can get very busy with dogs of all sizes. If you have a smaller or more timid dog, walk further north up the beach towards the dunes. It's generally much quieter, giving you more space to relax and play without being in the middle of the main pack.

2. Silver Beach (Kurnell Dog Beach)

Location:
312 Prince Charles Parade, Kurnell NSW 2231

The Vibe:
In contrast to Greenhills, Silver Beach offers a calm and protected bayside experience. The dedicated off-leash section, often known as Kurnell Dog Beach, is located at the western end of the beach. The water here is typically flat and shallow, making it the perfect spot for small dogs, puppies experiencing the beach for the first time, or any dog that prefers a gentle swim over chasing waves. The whole area has a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

Dog Rules:

  • This is a 24/7 off-leash beach, but only in the designated zone.
  • Dogs must be on-leash in all other areas of Silver Beach, including the car park and pathways.

Parking:

  • A great option is the dedicated and free Kurnell Beach Car Park, which is open 24 hours and located conveniently for beach access. Free street parking is also available along Silver Beach Road.
  • It can get busy on sunny weekends, so you may need to park a short walk away from the off-leash section.

Facilities:

  • Public toilets at Bonna Point Reserve
  • Outdoor showers available
  • Water taps available

Nearby Dog-Friendly Cafes:

  • Cook @ Kurnell - A great local cafe with an outdoor area, perfect for a coffee after your beach visit.
  • Cafe K @ The Bay - Offers great coffee and treats with beautiful bay views.

Pup Safari Tip:

The off-leash area is not fenced and is located right next to the on-leash section. Be mindful of the boundary signs (the rock jetties) to avoid a fine. The water is very shallow for a long way out, making it fantastic for less confident swimmers, but keep an eye out for sharp shells in the sand.

Getting There Safely

The journey is part of the adventure. Make sure your dog travels safely and comfortably.

A dog car seat keeps smaller dogs secure and relaxed, while a proper setup helps reduce anxiety on the road.
